1. Mahasu Peak — the highest point around Kufri
Mahasu Peak is the highest point in the Kufri area and the place most visitors head first. Vehicles stop on the Kufri side; the last stretch is on foot or on a pony along a forest track. On a clear day the views open up across layers of forested ridges.
Tips:
- Go early. Mornings are clearer, and queues for ponies are shorter.
- Agree the pony fare first, including the return trip and any waiting time.
- Wear shoes with grip — the track can be muddy after rain and slippery in snow.
2. Himalayan Nature Park, Kufri
The Himalayan Nature Park is a wildlife park focused on Himalayan species, and an easy half-day with children. Walk the paths slowly; mornings are usually the best time to see animals active.
3. Kufri Fun World
Kufri Fun World is an amusement park with rides and a go-kart track billed as the highest in the world. It is a good stop for families with children and for groups who want something light-hearted between viewpoints. Check timings locally, as rides depend on the weather.
4. Snow activities in winter
In the snow season — usually December to February — Kufri's open slopes are used for tobogganing and skiing when there is enough snow. According to Wikipedia's entry on Kufri, potato fields around the area turn into ski tracks in winter.
- Snow is never guaranteed; check with your host before planning around it.
- Hire snow boots and gloves locally if you are not carrying your own.
- Keep children warm and dry, and take regular breaks indoors.

5. Fagu — the quiet next stop
Fagu is a small village just beyond Kufri on NH 5, with open views, fields and orchards. It is calmer than Kufri's main viewpoints and only 3.4 km from Pinewood. See Fagu and Theog: the quieter side of Kufri.
6. Indira Tourist Park and roadside viewpoints
Wikipedia lists Indira Tourist Park among Kufri's viewpoints. All along the highway between Shimla, Kufri and Fagu you will find spots to pull over for photographs — choose safe, wide shoulders and avoid stopping on bends.
7. Taste local food
Try siddu and babru at local eateries, and ask about Himachali home cooking. See our Himachali food guide.
A one-day Kufri plan
- 8:30 am — Leave early for Mahasu Peak.
- 11:30 am — Himalayan Nature Park.
- 1:30 pm — Lunch.
- 2:30 pm — Kufri Fun World, or snow play in winter.
- 4:30 pm — Drive back via Fagu for sunset views.
Is Kufri good for families and groups?
Yes. The main attractions are close together, the drives between them are short, and there is plenty for children. Groups travelling together often prefer to stay under one roof — at The Pinewood Homestay Kufri you can book the whole house, and the Suite with Kitchen makes meals with children easier.
