Road distances and drive times are Google Maps estimates from Pinewood's location. Weekend traffic and snow can make journeys much longer.
Pinewood is about 8.4 km from Kufri bus stop (around 20 minutes) and about 21–24 km from central Shimla — The Ridge and Mall Road — (roughly 1 hour) by road.
Pinewood is in the Kufri area of Shimla district (PIN 171012), near Bekhalti village on the Fagu–Theog side of Kufri — about 3.4 km from Fagu and 6.7 km from Theog by road. Use our Google Maps location for turn-by-turn directions, and call your host if you need help with the last stretch.
About 21 km to The Ridge (roughly 55 minutes) and 24 km to Mall Road (about 1 hour) by road. Allow extra time on weekends, in the evening and during snowfall.
By road from Pinewood:
The nearest airport is Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti), about 42 km by road (around 1 hour 45 minutes). The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport, about 142 km (around 4 hours).
About 132 km from Chandigarh (around 3 hours 50 minutes) and about 378 km from New Delhi (around 7½ hours) by road, via Shimla.
The usual route is by road via Shimla, continuing east past Kufri towards Fagu and Theog. Coming by train, take the Kalka–Shimla line to Shimla and a taxi from there. By air, fly to Shimla Airport (Jubbarhatti) or to Chandigarh and drive up. Call or WhatsApp your host before you set out for the latest road conditions.
Within an easy drive: Mahasu Peak, Kufri Fun World and the Himalayan Nature Park in Kufri; Fagu next door; Shimla's Ridge and Mall Road; and day trips to Mashobra, Naldehra, Chail and Narkanda. See our Kufri guide for more.
You can, but it is a long day. Kufri's attractions are 7–10 km from Pinewood and central Shimla about 21–24 km. Many guests spend one day around Kufri and another in Shimla so the drive does not take over the trip.
Walks and pony rides up to Mahasu Peak, the Himalayan Nature Park, Kufri Fun World, and photography along the ridge. In the snow season, skiing and tobogganing slopes open around Kufri when there is enough snow.
Yes. Narkanda is about 39 km away (around 1 hour 20 minutes) and is the base for Hatu Peak. Chail Palace is about 35.5 km away via the Kufri–Chail road (around 1 hour 35 minutes). Start early, especially in winter when daylight is short.
Snowfall usually comes between December and February, with January often the snowiest month. It varies from year to year and is never guaranteed, so check with your host before planning a trip around snow.
December–February for snow; March–June for clear, pleasant days and escaping the heat of the plains; July–September for green, misty monsoon hills; and October–November for crisp, clear weather.
Warm layers in every season — evenings are cool even in summer. In winter bring a heavy jacket, thermals, gloves, a woollen cap and shoes with good grip for snow and ice. A rain jacket helps during the monsoon.
Heavy snowfall can slow or temporarily close roads between Shimla, Kufri and Theog until they are cleared. Keep a buffer day in your plans and call your host before you travel for the latest conditions.
